Meralco activates Zach Lofton for Northport clash

Meralco has found an easier solution to address its import problem in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup.

The Bolts are set to activate Zach Lofton ahead of Sunday’s clash against NorthPort, as confirmed by team manager Paolo Trillo.

“Yes, we’re activating Zach for the game versus Northport,” wrote the executive in a text message to Tiebreaker Times on Thursday.

Utilizing the former NBA player was one of Meralco’s options when Su Braimoh suffered an Achilles injury during their eventual 97-94 win over NLEX last week.

The Nigerian reinforcement has since undergone surgery to repair the tear.

Now, the Bolts will face the Batang Pier with Lofton, who is one of the team’s imports in the ongoing East Asia Super League alongside center Prince Ibeh.

The 31-year-old guard was officially measured in the PBA office on Thursday and is expected to be the smallest import in this conference, with a 6-foot-9 height limit, at only 6-foot-3 7/16.

There is no word yet from the ball club on whether it will stick with Lofton for the remainder of the Commissioner’s Cup or bring in another big man like the 6-foot-8 Braimoh.

Meralco currently holds a 4-1 record in the tournament, sharing the third spot with Ginebra in the standings.
