Jayson Castro exits game prematurely, assures fans it’s nothing serious

ANTIPOLO – Jayson Castro said that he’s all fine after a quad issue led to his premature exit in TNT’s eventual loss to San Miguel in their PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup duel, Sunday night.

The 37-year-old is confident that he suffered nothing serious following tests done by the team’s medical staff.

“I think OK naman ako kasi lahat naman ng test ginawa nila, wala naman,” he told reporters moments after their 98-93 defeat at the Ynares Center here.

“Pagod lang siguro.”

Castro asked to be subbed out at the 8:17-mark of the fourth quarter as he suddenly felt his quad ‘shutting down.’

The veteran guard said that he had been feeling as much during the game but it turned from bad to worse.

It was evident when he landed following a jump shot attempt, leading to a 4-on-5 situation that he immediately stopped by fouling opposing guard Terrence Romeo to halt the match.

“During game nararamdaman ko na siya,” he said. “Nag-activate naman ako. Pero pagka-rebound ko and then pagka-(ayup ko, after that sinub ako, and then nung babalik ako dun ko naramdaman.

“Parang nag-shut down totally,” added Castro.

He was never brought back into the game anymore, leaving with 12 points, a rebound, and five assists in 18 minutes as the coaches deemed it best not to risk it even if they badly needed the W.

“Sabi nila, ‘wag na pilitin kung may nararamdaman kasi it’s a long season pa naman — even though kailangan namin manalo,” he said.

“Pero ‘yun nga, mas kailangan talagang wag na isugal, pag ‘di rin 100 percent.”
