Mike Fermin not yet satisfied despite Adamson’s first round sweep

Adamson University proved that the preseason hype was deserved.

The Baby Falcons, last season’s runners-up, swept the entire first round of the UAAP Season 86 High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Capping off their sweep was a 68-57 victory over the FEU-Diliman Baby Tamaraws — the same team that foiled their title bid last year.

Proud is head coach Mike Fermin of the feat they have achieved, stressing that vengeance was not on their minds in the game last Sunday.

“They worked hard for this so hats off to them. Hats off din sa FEU, they played really well. That’s what I told them, hindi basta-basta yung FEU team na yan. Champion team yan,” he said.

“Ang mindset nila hindi bumawi, ang mindset nila is to get the win. Dun lang papasok yung sweep the first round.”

The campaign of the Baby Falcons so far has been nothing short of spectacular.

There is no 15-point scorer for Adamson with Justine Garcia being the sole double-digit scorer at 12.43 points per game. He is also the leading assist man of the team at 5.14 per contest.

Scattered has been the scoring of the Baby Falcons with Earl Medina (9.71), Vince Reyes (9.0), and, lately, Zahir Sajili (6.21) taking turns in leading the scoring charge for them.

Safe to say, it’s the system that is running the Adamson engine.

That is why come the second round, Fermin remains unsatisfied.

Now, they are no longer the hunters. All targets are on them.

“Dami pa rin naming lapses sa depensa. Sinasabi ko lagi na the little things will make the difference sa dulo.”
