Baser Amer to explore free agency as Blackwater partnership set to end

It looks like Baser Amer will hit the free agent market soon.

The seasoned floor general and Blackwater have mutually agreed to part ways when his current contract expires on December 31 of this year.

Agent Danny Espiritu confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times Sunday, adding that they are now trying to secure his release papers.

Per PBA rules, teams have 30 days to offer their players with lapsed deals, but the Bossing may no longer exercise as much given their agreement.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to get it soon,” he said.

Amer signed a one-year pact with the franchise owned by Ever Bilena Inc. back on December 29 of last year as he was seen as its lead playmaker.

But it proved to be his final run with Blackwater now that he’s set to hit free agency, marking the end of a nearly three-season partnership.

The eight-year pro arrived at the ball club back in February of 2021 as he was traded by Meralco in exchange for Mac Belo and Bryan Faundo.

Amer struggled early due to injuries, but would soon find a renaissance of sorts most especially in the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup.

He averaged 18.4 points in the mid-season conference until a calf injury halted what had been a career-best stretch for the San Beda legend.

Amer would find himself in and out of the lineup due to injuries.

In fact, he’s only played three games so far this Season 48 due to the same injury.

But soon, the three-time All-Star could find a fresh start somewhere else.

Amer is set to be the latest player to be let go by Blackwater after Rashawn McCarthy, whose contract is also set to expire this month.
