Converge terminates Mac Tallo’s contract after ‘ligang labas’ fiasco

Mac Tallo has squandered his second chance at a PBA stint.

The prolific 6-foot guard from Cebu was terminated by Converge on Wednesday after being caught playing in an unsanctioned game in Cebu last week.

The FiberXers announced the development on their social media account.

“Following a thorough investigation, it was confirmed that Mac Tallo had committed several infractions of his Uniform Players’ Contract. This includes playing in unsanctioned games without seeking clearance from Converge Management and the Philippine Basketball Association,” read the statement.

“The Converge FiberXers have decided to terminate his contract.”

Tallo, 30, was signed by Converge last November after securing his release from Chooks-to-Go.

It marked Tallo’s return to the big league after four years.

During his time away from the PBA, Tallo worked his way back through the 3×3 scene, rising to become the Philippines’ top 3×3 player.

However, he forced his way out of his contract with Chooks-to-Go to be reunited with head coach Aldin Ayo.

Tallo’s stint with Converge only lasted for five games, averaging 7.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

He suffered an injury that resulted in him being put on the restricted free agent with salary list.

Despite nursing an “injury”, Tallo still played five games in the Sinulog Cup, even being crowned as the tournament MVP.

He was also fined P100,000 by the PBA – a discounted rate as players who are caught playing in a ‘ligang labas’ is fined P50,000 per game.

Tallo still had 20 months left in his contract, costing him approximately P6-million.
