Brooke Van Sickle admits having jitters in PVL debut

Brooke Van Sickle had already dipped her toes into Philippine volleyball, thanks to the PNVF Champions League.

Still, she felt butterflies in her Premier Volleyball League debut.

The Filipino-American outside spiker was able to showcase her wares already in the PNVF tournament, guiding Petro Gazz to the championship last February 10.

There, Van Sickle let the Filipino audience what was coming in the PVL by bagging the Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Outside Spiker awards.

In her PVL debut on Tuesday, the University of Hawaii standout had seven points and 10 digs as the Angels easily handled Strong Group Athletics, 25-12, 25-20, 25-12.

“I felt we’re a little tense, not really flowing as well. Probably first game jitters a little bit but it’s still really good to be able to start PVL with a win,” said the 5-foot-8 power hitter.

“Of course, there’s always gonna be butterflies at the start of the conference but I do agree that playing in the PNVF did help a lot.”

Van Sickle hopes that by next week, she and her team have already fixed the issue that still bugged them against SGA despite the straight sets win in 68 minutes.

Petro Gazz committed 27 errors while Strong Group only had 21.

“Choco Mucho they’re a very good team and we’re gonna expect a really good fight and we just have to go through this week working extremely hard and continue to push that team chemistry,” said Van Sickle.

“We made a lot of errors tonight and hopefully the training will help decrease that moving forward.”
