ANTA steps onto PBA court, becomes official footwear partner

ANTA Philippines further strengthened its presence in the local hoops scene after partnering up with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The brand is now serving as the official footwear of Asia’s first pro league after entering a three-year deal, with both parties interested in an extension.

ANTA PH general manager JP Paglinawan and PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial led the press launch at New World Makati Hotel Thursday to formally unveil the partnership, which began in the Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup.

“As one of the biggest sports brands in the world, ANTA is all about making our products available to Filipino basketball players at all levels. It’s the first league in Asia so it’s only right for ANTA to partner up with the PBA,” Paglinawan said.

“The PBA is happy and proud of this partnership. We share the same vision and values in sports with ANTA,” said Marcial, on the other hand. “We think this is advantageous for the league, and we are honored. Nagpapasalamat kami.”

Some coaches, officials, and players from the three PBA member teams that ANTA PH is presently sponsoring attended the event as well.

Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup runners-up Magnolia were represented by assistant coach Mon Jose and liaison officer Reena Del Mundo.

Attending for TNT were team manager Jojo Lastimosa and assistant coach Yuri Escueta, whose San Beda Red Lions are also being outfitted by the brand.

Coming in to rep Rain or Shine, lastly, were head coach Yeng Guiao, team manager Jireh Ibanes, and Anton Asistio, who’s also a brand ambassador.

“It’s a good mix of teams that carry the ANTA attitude. We all have shared values and we share the same vision, that’s why we worked hard to really secure the partnership with these teams,” said Paglinawan.

Now ANTA PH and the PBA are keen on solidifying their alliance, with Marcial glad to be working with a brand that’s not just a mere business partner.

“Dati may mga sponsors na kami pero mas maganda ang deal ngayon. Mas close kami, mas close ako sa ANTA. Kasi before–and I apologize–pirmahan lang. Ngayon, medyo may bond kami ng konti,” Marcial said.

The feeling is mutual for Paglinawan and Co.

“We don’t want a relationship lang on the surface. We want a deeper relationship with the PBA so we’re discussing how we can work more with them,” said the amiable executive.
