Savi Davison takes charge as PLDT’s leader

Now in her second conference with PLDT, Fil-Canadian outside spiker Savannah Davison is finally learning to embrace the lead role for the High Speed Hitters.

With new recruit Kianna Dy still recovering from a knee injury and starting middle blocker Mika Reyes out for the conference following shoulder surgery, Davison put up an all-around performance and steered PLDT to a rousing 25-22, 25-6, 25-9 debut win over Galeries Tower last Thursday.

“I think everything’s coming together. All the days that we put in, hard work—I’m just super excited to start this season with the people we have on the court. And I think being that go-to person, that is my goal. So, I’m very happy with the outcome,” said Davison.

“I hope to start every season on a clean slate. It just gives me something to work towards. I don’t really like to put that additional pressure on myself. You play the best when you play calmly and freely. So I’m just happy with the outcome, and I just want to be that go-to person on the court, and if the points show up, then the points,” she added.

Davison showcased her versatility in the win, tallying a game-high 19 points with 16 attacks, two blocks, and one ace, along with nine excellent digs and eight excellent receptions versus the Highrisers at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.PVL-2024-PLDT-vs.-Galeries-Savi-Davison-1943 Savi Davison takes charge as PLDT's leader News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

The High Speed Hitters powered through in their debut without Reyes, Dy, and Jovie Prado, managing to squeeze out ample contributions from their new additions: Kim Fajardo, Majoy Baron, Shiela Kiseo, and Kiesha Bedonia.

Also contributing significantly for PLDT was Jules Samonte, who filled in for Dy in the opposite spiker spot, tallying 15 points and 10 excellent digs.

Still, the US NCAA Division I standout wants to see a complete and healthy High Speed Hitters squad compete against the best in the PVL.

“It just adds depth to our team. We care for everybody, and we hope that their recovery is fast. But I think more so it’s the day-to-day that we miss them the most. Seeing them on the court and seeing them play this sport that they love, I think that will just feed into the positivity that we have right now.”
