Angel Canino prioritizes mental well-being, shuns social media

After De La Salle University’s shock loss to University of Santo Tomas last Sunday, Angel Canino let out the emotions after giving her all in the five-setter.

The reigning MVP matched her career-best 28 points in the two-hour, 41-minute match but the Lady Spikers bowed to the Golden Tigresses, 18-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-16, 12-15, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Canino was seen crying after the match after losing a game in UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament after three games.

Then came the social media bullies who saw an opportunity to ridicule her.

Negative posts about Canino made rounds on social media platforms including from a former coach, and some professionals.

But the 20-year-old sophomore bounced back big on Saturday, helping La Salle win via straight sets against Ateneo de Manila University, 25-12, 25-22, 25-19.UAAP-86-WVB-Angel-Canino-6 Angel Canino prioritizes mental well-being, shuns social media DLSU News UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

“I was able to tune out everything of that because I have no social media right now so wala akong nakikita kahit ano mang negative or positive na sinasabi po nila. Wala po akong nakikita,” said Canino after dropping 10 points against the Blue Eagles.

“It’s important for me to protect my peace of mind talaga so yun wala po akong social media,” shared the second-ever rookie MVP.

However, messages of support reached her family after the emotional loss to UST and amidst the bashing she’s experienced.

And for that, Canino is grateful.

“Pero malaking pasasalamat ko sa mga positive comments, sa mga lumalapit sa family ko maraming salamat po sa kanila kasi yun po talaga yung totoong nagsusuporta sa akin,” she said.
