PBA: Jamie Malonzo shines anew in Ginebra rout of Phoenix, maintains 2-0 slate

Jamie Malonzo’s redemption tour continued on Sunday.

Malonzo once again led Ginebra San Miguel, leading their 102-92 rout of Phoenix to remain unblemished in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-7 winger followed up his 32-point outing against Rain or Shine last Friday with a line of 17 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and a block.

And he carried the Gin Kings to their second win in three days.

Besides Malonzo’s stellar outing, it was Ginebra’s shooting that provided the pullaway – more specifically, Ralph Cu’s hot hands.

Cu, who celebrated his 27th birthday yesterday, fired three of his four triples in the third quarter that saw the Gin Kings outscore the Fuel Masters, 32-19.

“Just defensively and our three-point shooting led by our birthday boy, we started hitting shots in transition – something we’re trying to do a little bit more. We’re trying to play more up-tempo and look for shots like that,” said Cone as Ginebra knocked down 16 triples in the contest.

“I feel that we have the shooters.”

Finishing with 12 points apiece were Stanley Pringle, Christian Standhardinger, and Nards Pinto.

Maverick Ahanmisi also had an all-around outing, tallying 11 rebounds, eight assists, and seven points.

Scottie Thompson missed his second straight game as he continues to heal from a bum back.

Ginebra will next face Meralco on Friday at the same Quezon City venue.

Jason Perkins contributed 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Meanwhile, Javee Mocon delivered with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals for the Fuel Masters.

Unfortunately, Tyler Tio was absent from the lineup due to a sprained ankle sustained in their game two days ago against Northport.
