PVL: Creamline makes short work of Strong Group to gain pole

Creamline made quick work of Strong Group, 25-13, 25-13, 25-19, to take the solo lead in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The Cool Smashers, who are now alone at the top with a 4-0 record, extended their winning run to 19 games after dominating the Athletics in the one-hour, 11-minute encounter highlighted by a blistering 15-1 start in the second frame.

“Satisfied naman ako sa galaw ng mga players ngayon. Talagang nag-trabaho sila para makuha yung panalo,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.

“Hindi nila tinignan kung sino yung kalaban nila, yun naman yung importante. Maganda naman yung nilaro ng team,” he added.

Meneses utilized his entire bench in the contest with 11 players scoring at least two points in the lopsided victory against the PVL newcomer.

It was a dominant performance for the Rebisco-backed squad above the net, converting 44 of their attacks against the opposing side’s 27. The Cool Smashers also had a 6-1 and 4-1 advantage in blocks and aces, respectively.

Bernadeth Pons spearheaded Creamline’s balanced offensive attack with 12 points on 10 attacks and two aces while team captain Alyssa Valdez, who only played in the last two sets, had nine points.

Jema Galanza, Bea De Leon, and Dij Rodriguez contributed five points each for the Cool Smashers.

Creamline takes on Chery Tiggo on Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.

On the other hand, SGA, who suffered its fourth consecutive loss in as many games to start the conference, was led by Dolly Versoza with eight points to go along with 11 excellent digs and fourth excellent receptions.
