Graze Bombita looks back on long recovery from ACL tear

ANTIPOLO — Graze Bombita has come a long way since an unfortunate incident hampered her career two years ago.

Following a stellar performance with BaliPure in the 2021 Open Conference in the Ilocos Norte bubble, Bombita was picked up by Cignal.

She would bolster its wing rotation which included the likes of Rachel Daquis, Ces Molina, and Angeli Araneta.

The 33-year-old outside spiker, however, never got the chance to suit up for the HD Spikers after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her left knee during their pre-game warm-up in what was supposed to be her debut game for the squad.

Bombita managed to comeback a year later, but didn’t see action for the rest of her stint with Cignal.

She eventually found a new home in Galeries Tower come the season-ending Second All-Filipino Conference.

“Ups and downs talaga, hindi siya naging madali talaga,” recalled Bombita. “Hindi, kumbaga, lahat talaga pagdadaanan mo, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically.”

Still finding her footing during her first conference with the team, it seems like Bombita has finally regained her old, deadly form following an impressive performance in the Highrisers’ 25-17, 25-14 , 25-12 victory over Strong Group on Saturday.

The pride of Iriga City registered 16 points – her best output yet this conference – to lead Galeries to their first back-to-back victories in franchise history, which already doubled their win total from the previous conference

She also had 12 points in the team’s five-set triumph over Capital1 last weekend.

Bombita thanked her Highrisers family for keeping their faith in her and for supporting her throughout her journey.

“Pero pinaka-challenge talaga ‘yung sa mentally pero sobrang happy ako and grateful ako doon sa mga taong andun na sumuporta during my downs kasi nandun sila talaga,” she said.

“Kumbaga sila ‘yung naging kamay ko na umangat paunti-unti [until] naibalik ko ‘yung laro ko.”
