Familiarity with Kim Fajardo, Rhea Dimaculangan brings out best in Majoy Baron

ANTIPOLO – Majoy Baron delivered her best performance in a PLDT jersey on Saturday, making significant contributions in the High Speed Hitters’ dominant straight-set win over Farm Fresh in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference elimination round.

The 5-foot-11 Baron, who had only averaged 5.6 points in her first five games, tallied 11 points on seven attacks, two blocks, and two aces.

And her performances helped the High Speed Hitters secure their third consecutive win, 25-9, 25-13, 25-21, at the Ynares Center here.

“Happy kasi nakuha na namin ‘yung momentum at mas nakikilala na namin ang isa’t isa sa loob ng court at mas nakakasunod kami sa sistema,” said the 28-year-old middle blocker as PLDT tied Creamline at the top spot with identical 5-1 records.

Baron mentioned that she’s adjusting well to the High Speed Hitters’ system, and her familiarity with starting setter Kim Fajardo definitely played a big part in her development.

“Of course, natututo pa rin ako along the way. Pero I can say na hindi naman ako nahihirapan mag-adjust sa system kasi kasama ko rin si Ate Kim (Fajardo), so hindi na rin ako nag-aadjust sa setting,” said the former La Salle star.

“Si Ate Rhea (Dimaculangan), naging teammate ko siya before, hindi naman mahirap mag-adjust,” added Baron, who played with Dimaculangan in several national team stints.

The two have been playing together for more than a decade now, teaming up both at La Salle in the UAAP and F2 Logistics in the Philippine Super Liga and the PVL.

When the Cargo Movers decided to disband their roster late last year, Baron and Fajardo – along with Kianna Dy – moved to PLDT, adding another chapter to their storied partnership.

The former PVL Best Middle Blocker also credited the coaching staff led by head coach Rald Ricafort for always guiding them on what to do whenever they’re inside the court.

“Kami naman nag-aaral kami nang maayos at sumusunod lang kami sa gustong mangyari nila coach at sa sistema ng team. I think ‘yun yung naging key eh, maglalaro na lang talaga kami, susunod na lang kami,” said Baron.

“Nagbubunga naman ‘yung pakikinig at pagsunod namin kay Coach (Rald).”
