PVL: Chery Tiggo sends Nxled to back-to-back losses

Chery Tiggo shrugged off a first set slip, downing Nxled in four, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20, for a share of the fourth spot in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, Tuesday.

With their third straight win, the Crossovers have joined Petro Gazz at 5-2, trailing just Creamline, Choco Mucho, and PLDT all at 5-1.

“For today’s game, nag-respond sila sa kung ano ‘yung intentions ng coaches. Happy kami kasi lumabas kahit papaano ‘yung mga ine-ensayo namin – though hindi naman lahat nandoon, at least merong lumalabas,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Kungfu Reyes.

The fourth frame was tied at 15 until middle blockers Aby Maraño and Pauline Gaston – along with Shaya Adorador – piled up four straight points.

That gave enough cushion to the Crossovers to eventually secure the win in two hours and 23 minutes.

In the third, the Chameleons kept in step in the early goings but Chery Tiggo, through Eya Laure, opened up a 16-10 lead.

They would get everything going their way en route to finishing the chapter with a 25-16 result for a 2-1 set lead.

Mylene Paat led the Crossovers with 15 points off the bench. Eya Laure made 12 points, all of which she made in the first three sets.

Cess Robles also breached double figures with 11 points, while Alina Bicar amazed with 17 excellent sets and 13 excellent digs.

Libero Jen Nierva also continued her splendid display with 20 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

Chery Tiggo will have a half-month of rest before returning on April 11 against Cignal in the same venue.

Ivy Lacsina, meanwhile, had a personal conference-high 20 points for the Chameleons, who dropped to 1-5.

Jho Maraguinot delivered an all-around performance with 11 points, 31 excellent receptions, and 13 digs.

Meanwhile, Lycha Ebon and Cams Victoria chimed in 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss.

Nxled will be back in action on April 4 against the winless Strong Group.
