Greg Dolor opens up about adapting to George Pascua’s system in Navy

Greg Dolor admitted that grasping the new system of PGJC-Navy under new head coach George Pascua was difficult.

But when the Sealions went on a three-game winning streak in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, difficult became easier and easier for Dolor and Co.

“Nung una mahirap pero unti-unti kasi pinapaintindi sa amin ni Coach George yung sistema na gusto niyang mangyari,” said Dolor on Friday after Navy’s 25-19, 25-12, 25-22 win over Richmarc Sports 3B.

“Yung winning streak namin nagbuboost sa amin na unti-unti nakikita namin yung sistema na gusto mangyari ni Coach George which is parang napakadali pala. Napakahirap siya nung una pero nung napagtulong-tulungan, dumadali na siya nang dumadali,” continued the middle blocker-turned-wing spiker.

It was not the ideal start for Pascua at the helm as the Sealions bowed to defending champion Cignal in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 27-25.

However, Pascua knew it was bound to happen as he had just joined Navy’s fold a week before the start of the brand new season of the country’s men’s premier league organized by Sports Vision.

Since that loss, the Sealions defeated Philippine Air Force, Maverick, and the Elite Spikers, all in dominant fashion.

“Nandoon na, nakukuha na nila unlike nung first game namin one week pa lang kaming nagkakasama. Ngayon kahit papaano medyo umookay okay na,” said Pascua.

Dolor, an enlisted Navy personnel, shared that one thing that Pascua keeps on instilling them was to do things collectively for a successful conference.

The Sealions’ road will be more challenging as they are still slated to face Savouge Aesthetics, VNS-Nasty, powerhouse Criss Cross, and D’Navigators.

“Number one is yung tapang sa paglalaro then yung enjoyment at yung communication, yung collective effort lagi yun yung laging sinasabi sa amin na hindi puwedeng ikaw lang,” said Dolor, who unloaded 15 points against Richmarc.
