MPL PH: ONIC stays fire, exacts revenge on ECHO

ONIC Philippines successfully avenged their first round loss with a 2-0 conquest of ECHO in Week 4 of the MPL Philippines Season 13 on Sunday at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City.

The Sonics (7-1) remain on top of the standings with 21 points courtesy of superior tiebreak points over AP.Bren (7-1), who has the same points total.

According to ONIC coach Patrick “E2max” Caidic, they expected a really close encounter against ECHO but his team overcame the challenges with solid playmaking and decisive decision-making.

“Yung naging advantage namin, yung playmaking talaga ng team. Sobrang ganda ng mga shotcall ni Escalera tapos mafafollow-upan ng mga kakampi. Kumbaga napapalakas nila. Yung mga play na ginagawa nila, kung ano maisip nila gagawin talaga nila,” E2max siad on what buoyed their victory against ECHO.

“Walang takot talaga. Walang panghihina ng loob. Kung mapapanood niyo, sobrang aggressive ng team and nakakaparoud na nalalabas nila yung ganung laro lalo sa mga high stake na match.”

Game 1 boiled down to a 22nd-minute cross map play where Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez (Lou Yi) scored a double kill around the lord pit while sending Duane “Kelra” Pillas (Claude) in the midlane inhibitor with the Diversion to complete a 4-0 wipe.

ONIC wasted no time forcing the issue a minute later, completing the wipeout and taking the opener, 1-0.

“Nasa plano na namin yugn ganun eh. Habang nalilibang sila sa teamfight, papateleport talaga ako kay Frince sa midlane. Yun yung parang naging main na gagawin namin, magsesegway ako,” Kelra on the winning play in Game 1.

In Game 2, ONIC banked on a 13th-minute lord dance where Kelra (Roger) scored a double kill to lead a 4-1 exchange.

That was enough for the Sonics to mount a successful base turret siege in the ensuing sequence to complete the sweep.

ECHO (5-3) fell to their third loss and second straight but remained in a tie for third place with RSG Philippines (5-3). They both have 16 points.

ONIC’s next match is scheduled on Friday, April 19, against RSG Philippines.
