Shevana Laput acknowledges growth with La Salle: ‘Not my best yet’

The best is yet to come for Shevana Laput as she believes she can contribute more to De La Salle University in their ongoing UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament campaign.

Laput has been stepping up for the Lady Spikers since Angel Canino went down with a right arm injury. She has led the team to a 4-1 record with an average of 20.4 points per game.

“You know, I’m just glad there’s progress. I always think to myself I’m a work in progress. This isn’t my best,” said Laput, who is just in her sophomore year at La Salle.

“I know I can do so much more, but I’m glad right now I’m contributing to the team.”

The 6-foot-2 opposite spiker delivered 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks as La Salle thumped rival Ateneo de Manila University, 25-12, 25-12, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

It was an important victory for the Lady Spikers, as it allowed them to force a tie with National University and University of Sto. Tomas at the number one spot with identical 11-2 records.

This gives them a clear shot at taking one of the twice-to-beat incentives if they beat the Golden Tigresses in their final elimination round assignment on Saturday at 6:00 PM.

But more than her stellar individual performance, the Filipino-Australian spiker believes that working together as a team will be the ultimate key for La Salle.

“I’m just glad that I can contribute to the team, but mostly, I’m proud of my teammates because if you look at the stats here, you can see that everyone did something,” said Laput.

“I’m just glad that we’re working together as a team going into this last game as well as the semifinals. I’m really glad to see how we’re performing and we’re very excited to show everybody that we’re the Lady Spikers and this is how we play.”
