Glen Yang hints at representing Hong Kong NT: ‘It might be coming sooner than later’

Is Glen Yang suiting up for Hong Kong soon?

The seasoned guard hinted at the possibility of playing for the upstart men’s national team, wherein he could be representing where his father hails from.

“I won’t confirm anything, but you know, it might be coming sooner than later,” stated Yang, who is currently suiting up for Hong Kong Eastern.

The idea came after Yang sorted out his passport issues recently, which caused him to stay in HK and miss their trip to the Philippines for a PBA game.

He could only watch from his place the 99-81 beatdown Eastern received at the hands of Rain or Shine last Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Yet he fixed what was needed, allowing him to fly back to Manila and rejoin his ball club in time for Friday’s meeting against the debuting TNT.

And along the process of taking care of his passport woes ignited plans of him playing for Hong Kong — a country where he’s spent much of his career.

Even before joining Eastern, Yang played in the South China AA of the A1 Division before landing gigs in Spain, Bay Area, and Canada’s CEBL.

Needless to say, it’s an opportunity he wishes to see materialize.

“It might be coming sooner than later, so hopefully I can suit up against Gilas one day, representing Hong Kong,” he said with a smile.

But while he waits for that, Yang is enjoying playing for Eastern in the PBA, a league in which he’s grown an affinity following that Dragons stint.

In fact, he couldn’t be any more blessed to have returned to Asia’s pioneering professional league, for he never imagined this to happen again.

The same goes for Hayden Blankley and Kobey Lam.2022-PBA-Commissioners-Cup-Ginebra-vs-Bay-Area-Glen-Yang Glen Yang hints at representing Hong Kong NT: 'It might be coming sooner than later' Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news

“I love the Philippines, man! It’s one of my favorite places, honestly,” he said. “Me, Hayden, and Kobe, we didn’t think we’d come back.

“So when we found out Eastern was coming here, it was honestly like a dream come true. And it’s like a redemption season, you know,” he added.

The redemption he’s talking about, of course, is getting another crack at a PBA championship after falling short in the 2022-23 Commissioner’s Cup.

Yes, the series that went to Game 7, which lured 54,086 fans at the Philippine Arena and witnessed Ginebra come out triumphant, 114-99.

“We get another crack at it,” Yang said. “We came this close last time, so we’re trying to finish the job this time and win the whole thing.”

That’s why every game matters for this Eastern side and so far, Yang and Co. have shown how much they want to succeed in this league.

They beat the Tropang Giga in convincing fashion, 105-84, for their third win in four games in the Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup for a strong bounce-back.

Yang himself was integral in beating the reigning two-time Governors’ Cup champions with 19 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.

But this may not be their best form yet.

“I think we’re gonna get better as the season goes on,” Yang said.
