The recently-concluded TNT-Barangay Ginebra title showdown in the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup was a massive success — not just in ticket sales, but also in TV ratings and social media engagement.
The Tropang Giga edged out the Gin Kings in a hard-fought series that went the full seven-game distance, with the decisive Game 7 drawing a crowd of 21,274 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The series was a blockbuster on television as well, with the winner-take-all Game 7 recording a 5.1-percent NUTAM (Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement) rating and a 4.6-percent PHINTAM (Philippine National TV Audience Measurement) rating.
At its peak, viewership reached 7.0-percent, or approximately five million viewers, according to a Cignal TV report presented to the PBA Board of Governors during a meeting at the league’s office in Libis, Quezon City.
Both audience measurements were based on a survey conducted by AGB Nielsen.
“The fans’ overwhelming support is truly heartwarming, and we extend our deepest gratitude to them,” said PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial.
The Game 7 PHINTAM rating of 4.6-percent closely matched the 4.9-percent achieved during the Season 47 Governors’ Cup Finals, which was the highest-rated sports event in 2023.
Coincidentally, the Season 47 Governors’ Cup title was also contested by TNT and Ginebra, with the series airing on TV5.
Now broadcast on RPTV, the TNT-Ginebra showdown continued to draw strong viewership, outperforming GMA’s Amazing Earth and PBB Celeb, as well as ABS-CBN’s Saving Grace and Liar in Sunday’s ratings.
