Aaron Black forgoes final year with Ateneo Blue Eagles

For Aaron Black, it is time to move on.

After spending the last five years in Ateneo and four years playing for the Blue Eagles, the second generation cager has decided to come down from the hill.

“I’m already done with school in May and I have decided to forego my final playing year,” the Bachelor of Arts, Major in Communications student-athlete told Tiebreaker Times.

The 6-foot-1 lefty guard was a steady contributor for the Blue Eagles during his four-year stay with the team.

Back in 2014, Black committed to Ateneo but only played in the Blue Eagles’ Glory Be squad as he needed to focus on Batang Gilas’ FIBA Asia U-16 campaign in Doha.

In his first two years with the Blue Eagles, he was the sixth man of the Blue Eagles, averaging a career-high 8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in his second year.

Though he saw his minutes reduced under head coach Tab Baldwin, he still remained as an offensive option off the bench.UAAP-81-ADMU-vs.-UE-Black-0395 Aaron Black forgoes final year with Ateneo Blue Eagles ADMU Basketball News UAAP - philippine sports news

Black ended his UAAP career with two gold medals and a silver medal to boot. More importantly, the now-22 year old will forever relish the time he spent in Ateneo.

“Of course, I’m happy with the way my collegiate career ended. It was a good experience,” he expressed.

“I will miss my teammates, the coaches, and the staff, everyone! It was a hard decision but I had to make it,” he furthered.

“At least, I almost got a half of what my dad [Norman – five championships] accomplished in the school.”

But that doesn’t mean that basketball will stop for Aaron. Right after his graduation, he will head over to the States to train over at Joe Abunassar’s Impact Basketball program.
