PLDT solidifies hold on third seed, sweeps Sta. Lucia

Coming off a disappointing loss, the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters trumped the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, 25-15, 26-24, 25-13, in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Aside from a tight second set, the Power Hitters comfortably led for most of the match. PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb attributed the second frame slump to their errors.

“Medyo namigay lang kami ng errors noong second set. Sabi ko sa kanila na hindi pwedeng mawala kami sa focus ng ganoon. Hindi namin dapat i-pressure ‘yung sarili namin,” said Gorayeb.

The Power Hitters had just 12 errors for the entire match. They punished Sta. Lucia on the block on the serve, gathering 19 points from both categories.

Grace Lazard led the Power Hitters with 19 points from 11 attacks, six blocks, and two aces while Kendra Dahlke added 15 markers off 10 spikes, four aces and a block.

Casey Schoenlein topped the Lady Realtors with 12 points while Rachel Austero managed 10.

PLDT (7-5) faces Cignal HD (6-6) on Tuesday while Sta. Lucia (2-8) takes on Generika-Ayala (3-7) on Saturday. Both matches will be played at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
