Marcio Lassiter has no regrets after ‘patay butiki’ trey: ‘I’ll take the exact same shot’

Safe to say, San Miguel’s resident sniper Marcio Lassiter is still trying to find his shot.

The 6-foot-2 guard, who has been hobbled by a back injury, played 32 minutes in Game One of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals. It was the longest he’d seen the court since Game Two of the Beermen’s series against the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

However, Lassiter went just 0-of-8 from the field, 0-for-5 from distance.

“I think it’s more about getting my rhythm. It’s really my injury that’s affecting me because I feel good,” said Lassiter.

“I was out twelve days – almost two weeks since I last played long minutes – so I’m just trying to find my rhythm.”

Head coach Leo Austria added, “I’m trying to let him play because we want him to get his rhythm.”

Game One ended in a foot race during the closing minutes of the contest.

With just 28 seconds left and Magnolia holding just a three-point lead, Chris Ross was able to pickpocket Mark Barroca. As Ross went for the races, he found a trailing Lassiter from behind, who went to the corner for a step-back triple.

The shot only hit the backboard, as Magnolia went on to survive San Miguel, 99-94.

“Maybe he had an off night,” said Austria about the shot.

“I’m sure that he will get back.”

Unperturbed, Lassiter stressed that if it happens again, he will still take the same shot.

“I’m definitely going to take it again. If it happens again I’ll take the exact same shot whatever game it is.”
