TNT-Phoenix game results in hefty fines, Louie Alas, referee suspension

Besides the PHP 50,000 tab handed to Calvin Abueva for his hit on Terrence Jones last Sunday, a number of players, coaches, a team official, and a referee were also punished by the league.

Terrence Jones was given a PHP 50,000 fine for “hitting the groin area” of Abueva. Jones though was not called for anything for that hit.

Moreover, he an additional PHP 20,000 bill for making contact with a referee afterward.

The referee who was right in front of Jones and Abueva, Bing Oliva, was suspended for 10 days without pay for missing the incident, which would have merited a flagrant two foul.

Earlier in the contest, members of TNT and Phoenix were not absolved by the league for their roles in a bench-clearing confrontation early in the game.

David and Anthony Semerad were slapped with PHP 20,000 fines for their role in the altercation; Alex Mallari and Don Trollano were handed a PHP 5,000 bill for their flagrant-one fouls; and Rob Dozier, Jason Perkins, and Jayson Castro a light PHP 1,000 fine each for verbal altercation.

TNT consultant Mark Dickel was given a bill totaling PHP 21,000 for throwing the ball at an official and for disrespectfully addressing an official.

TNT assistant manager Miguel Fernandez was handed a PHP 10,000 tab for approaching the technical table.

On the other hand, Phoenix head coach Louie Alas was handed a PHP 20,000 tab and a suspension of two games for being involved in an altercation with some TNT players last Sunday.

The outspoken mentor will miss Phoenix’s game against Meralco on June 7 and Rain or Shine on June 9.
