Petro Gazz remains unscathed, keeps Bali Pure winless

By: Ohmer Bautista

Riding the crest of a three-game win streak, the Petro Gazz Angels made sure to keep their blistering surge alive, as they swept the Bali Pure Purest Water Defenders, 25-19, 25-12, 25-15, in the PVL Reinforced Conference Season 3, Wednesday afternoon, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Angels have yet to drop a set this season, hiking their win-loss record to a league-best 4-0. On the other hand, they dropped the Water Defenders down to a 0-3 card.

“The more na nananalo, the more na rin hindi dapat magiging complacent kasi yung mga kalaban lalong magpe-prepare ‘yan lalo sa second round,” Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog said. “Hopefully, may maihanda kaming gameplan going to the second round kasi siyempre ‘yung kalaban binabasa kami.”

After a dominant showing in the opening salvo, the Angels continued to stamp their class over Bali Pure in the ensuing set as they doubled the scores, 18-9.

The lopsided theme kept on in the third chapter as Petro Gazz raced to a 18-10 cushion and never looked back.

The prolific import duo of Janisa Johnson and Wilma Salas continue to impress, as they finished with 12 markers each. Johnson added 11 excellent receptions while Salas supplied nine excellent receptions.

Jeanette Panaga led all locals with 11 points, three of which came from rejections, for Petro Gazz.

No Water Defender cracked into the double-digit territory as Slovakian import Alex Vajdova had eight markers.

The Angels will try to keep their slate spotless as they take on the PacificTown-Army on Saturday, June 8; while the Water Defenders face the win-hungry Motolite a day after. Both games will be played at the same venue.
