Baron captures Best Middle Blocker anew; Macandili wins Best Libero

In front of an ecstatic home crowd inside the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Laguna, two flagbearers of the Philippines were hailed the best in their positions in the second leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix, Sunday.

In the second leg of the regional meet, Majoy Baron was crowned as the Best Middle Blocker anew. Meanwhile, Dawn Macandili captured the Best Libero plum for the Nationals, who secured a podium finish and wrested the bronze.

Baron took home the Best Middle Blocker plum from Thailand in the opening leg of the four-nation league. She has averaged 6.7 points per game in this campaign. She proved to be a tower of power, collecting 2.3 kill blocks per outing.

On the other hand, Macandili continued to be an anchor on floor defense for the Philippine delegates. She normed 5.4 excellent digs per set in the three-day tournament.

Reigning champion Thailand and Indonesia each had a pair of awardees as well.

Thai middle blocker Pleumjit Thinkaow was adjudged the Most Valuable Player, while her teammate Pimpichaya Kokram received the Best Spiker honors.

Indonesia’s Ratri Wulandari was recognized for her steady service performance, receiving the Best Setter award. Mutiara Lutfi Tri Retno notched Best Setter to complete the stellar cast of players.
