Gonzales, De Guzman shines as EAC romps Arellano

The Emilio Aguinaldo College are making sure that they end their NCAA Season 95 Seniors Basketball campaign the right way.

The Generals scored their most dominant win yet on Friday, pounding the Arellano University Chiefs, 77-50, at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

This is just EAC’s fourth win this season, but they have won three of their last five games. And this mentality is what Oliver Bunyi wants his team to pick up heading to next season.

“We really want to play as a team because that’s the only time that we have a chance to train against the stronger teams,” he said, as EAC rose to 4-13 with one game left in their slate — a clash with Letran next week.

The unlikely duo of Renz Gonzales and Adrian de Guzman led the Generals, with the former tallying 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Meanwhile, de Guzman finished with 12 points and seven boards. Both had a couple of threes as well.

The Generals’ third-quarter assault on the Chiefs paved the way for the rout. They scored an impressive 27 points, while limiting their opponents to just 13 to gain a 63-40 lead heading into the final frame.

It was all EAC from there, as they led by as much as 29 points.

Gonzales and De Guzman were a breath of fresh air for Bunyi, as his main gunners struggled. Jethro Mendoza had just 11 points. On the other hand, JP Maguliano and Kriss Gurtiza were limited to just eight markers, respectively.

Arellano — who still have San Sebastian and JRU in their calendar — fell to 4-12.
