Adamson completes improbable run vs UST, reigns supreme in PVL

The youth-laden Adamson University closed the curtains of the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference in emphatic fashion, claiming the throne with a statement victory over University of Santo Tomas, Saturday afternoon.

Fresh off a morale-boosting Game One win, the Lady Falcons rode the crest of momentum, whitewashing the Golden Tigresses in straight-set fashion, 25-19, 25-6, 25-17, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Adamson relied on its near-impeccable floor reception paired with a ceaseless offensive onslaught. It stifled the Golden Tigresses and completing the championship series sweep.

Lorene Grace Toring and Trisha Genesis spearheaded the charge for Adamson. Toring continued to be a force above the net with six kill blocks en route to a game-high 15 points. Meanwhile, Conference Most Valuable Player Genesis dealt damage with her airborne assault, raining down 10 attacks to finish with 14 markers.

Rizza Cruz and Lucille Almonte supplied 10 and nine points, respectively. The latter also flaunted her defensive wares with 10 excellent receptions, to post a double-double outing.

Following her 33-set production in Game One, Adamson playmaker Louie Romero paced the Lady Falcons with 24 excellent sets. She also scored seven points anchored on four of her team’s 14 aces. Given her fine performance, she took home the Finals MVP honors.

The Lady Falcons figured in a close-quarter opening salvo, but they broke the game wide open in the second set where the Golden Tigresses crumpled. Adamson sprinted to a 13-1 edge capped by an attack from Ceasa Pinar, before coasting through the frame and cruising en route to the promised land.

“Inexpect namin talaga na UST will bounce back, so kumbaga nag-prepare din talaga kami sa kanila ‘yung sa defense and even sa offense,” Adamson head coach Lerma Giron said. “Siguro tinadhana talaga. Kasi second set, nakita ko sila medyo nafu-frustrate na, so grinab namin ‘yung opportunity. ‘Teka medyo lie-low na sila, tayo ang umarangkada’.”

Eya Laure was the sole saving grace for UST. She managed nine attacks, a kill block, and a service ace for 11 points while collecting 11 excellent digs in a losing cause. Imee Hernandez and EJ Laure were simmered down by Adamson’s defense with six and four markers, respectively.
