Alonzo Gee to replace Phelps as Phoenix import

Phoenix Pulse has decided to replace long-time import Eugene Phelps with former NBA cager Alonzo Gee for its campaign in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, multiple sources told Tiebreaker Times.

The Fuel Masters are currently 2-5 in the season-ending conference. Their most recent defeat came in the hands of the NorthPort Batang Pier, 70-80, last October 12.

Gee, a 10-year pro out of Alabama, brings with him a wealth of experience. He previously suited up for Washington, San Antonio, Cleveland, Denver, Portland, and New Orleans in the NBA.

Gee is already in the country, the source said. Should there be no issue — especially with his height — he is expected to make his debut with the Fuel Masters on October 25 versus Columbian Dyip.

His entry will cut short another tour of duty for the hulking 6-foot-5 Phelps, who has become a resident import of Phoenix Pulse, having played with them since 2016.

Phelps averaged 28.4 points, 15.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks this conference.
