West Japan All-Stars run roughshod over Cignal to open PSL Super Cup

West Japan All-Stars delivered a resounding statement when it opened its campaign in the 2020 PSL Imus City Mayor Maliksi Super Cup: Spike for a Cause, on Monday evening.

The Japanese hardly broke a sweat while belting the shorthanded Cignal HD Spikers with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-10 whipping at the Imus Sports Complex.

The selection squad from West Japan dictated the tempo right from the opening whistle. It mounted double-digit cushions in all frames, taking the fight out of the Philippine-based squad.

Cignal’s Swiss army knife Alohi Robins-Hardy tried to pummel a hit or two in a bid to pump life into the Lifesavers, who were without Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Daquis. In the end, she could only commend the visiting team’s overwhelming pace.

“They’re a tough team, Japanese style volleyball is quick. They’re a great team. I think we weren’t just all there. But [there’s room for] improvement for us where we’re at and what we can improve on,” Robins-Hardy said.

West Japan All-Stars look to conquer another PSL club team in Sta. Lucia. Meanwhile, Cignal seeks to barge into the win column when it collides with Generika-Ayala. Both matches will be held on Wednesday, February 5, at the same venue.
