UP cruises to third straight win; La Salle picks up dominant win

By: Jonash Dannug

Paul Desiderio steered the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons to their third consecutive win as they trounced the University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta Altas, 77-63, in the 12th Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup presented by Chooks-to-Go, Friday evening, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Desiderio scored six points in the Maroons’ 15-2 run in the final frame, which broke the game wide-open. The Gilas Cadet finished with 20 points that include five three-pointers, while Gelo Vito added 13 points and 14 rebounds for UP.

After losing their first three games of the tournament, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons have turned the tides around and won three consecutive games.

The Maroons won by a 14-point margin. However, UP head coach Bo Perasol is far from impressed with his team’s victory.

“This is some of the wins that I don’t like. I think that we didn’t exert too much effort. It was good that we were able to come back in the end. But for us to be able to win at a higher level we must have to be consistent with what we do,” he explained.

Edgar Charcos had 11 points, four assists, and four steals for Perpetual, while Tonton Peralta and Julius Tiburcio had 10 apiece.

UP look to continue their fiery streak on May 28, Monday, against the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals. Perpetual will try to notch their first win on May 22, Tuesday, versus the Mapua University Cardinals.
