Petro Gazz ends slide, sends BanKo skidding

The Petro Gazz Angels halted their three-game losing streak, rallying back against the BanKo Perlas Spikers, 15-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.

After getting washed in the first two sets, Petro Gazz found their groove in the third set thanks to timely lineup adjustments. Trailing 12-16, the Angels went on a decisive 9-0 run to seal the third set. Another late run in the fourth frame allowed Petro Gazz to inflate their 16-14 lead into a 20-15 wall to take the match to a decider.

By the fifth set, BanKo had lost all momentum, falling into an early 4-8 hole and failing to muster a comeback.

Petro Gazz head coach Jerry Yee credited his players’ willingness to adjust to midstream lineup changes for their success.

“Nagkaroon ng changes sa lineup nitong game and we have to give credit sa mga players for sacrificing ‘yung mga posisyon nila for the success of the team,” said Yee.

“Gigil na manalo eh. Finally, it translated into a win,” the former UP Lady Maroons head coach added.

Anastasiia Trach led the Angels with 27 points, while Kadi Kullerkann, who was moved to middle blocker, added 16 markers.

Jutarat Montripilia topped BanKo with 27 points while Lakia Bright added 23 markers.

The Angels (1-3) hope to keep rolling against the Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons(1-1) on May 26 at the FilOil Flying V Centre. BanKo Perlas (1-3) will try to end their losing streak against the Bali Pure Purest Water Defenders (2-1) on May 23.
