La Salle, FEU close in on QF berth

By: Jonash Dannug

Mark Dyke and the De La Salle Green Archers were able to fend off the pesky University of the East Red Warriors, 71-62, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup presented by Chooks-to-Go on Friday evening.

Dyke pitched in five points in the Archers’ 10-2 spurt in the final frame, to deny the Red Warriors their second win.

The former Bullpup finished with 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Green Archers, who now sit atop Group A with a 5-0 record.

“’Pag binibigyan ako ng opportunity ni coach, kahit ilang minutes lang ako binibigay ko pa ‘rin ‘yung best ko. Lalo na ngayon, maraming may injury sa amin,” said Dyke, who has been tearing it up for the Green Archers.

“Kapag pinasok na ako, gagawin ko ‘yung best ko,” he added.

Taane Samuel added 12 points and nine boards for the Green Archers while Justine Baltazar notched 11 markers.

Alvin Pasaol led the Red Warriors with 20 points and five boards while Philip Manalang and Jason Varilla chipped in eight points apiece.

Coming off from a lost to the FEU Tamaraws last Tuesday, the Adamson University Falcons survived a late-game scare from the Arellano University Chief, 67-61.

With 1:58 seconds remaining in the game, the Chiefs were able to trim the deficit to a solidary point through an Archie Concepcion lay-up. However, Jerome Lastimosa drained a three-pointer with 42.5 seconds remaining, which gave Adamson a comfortable six-point cushion.
