Following import change, Petro Gazz nails 2nd win with Iriga-Navy sweep

Needing to adjust due to several injuries, the Petro Gazz Angels still managed to continue their winning ways, grabbing their second win at the Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons’ expense, 25-22, 30-28, 25-13, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Angels got a boost from Iriga-Navy’s 31 errors, as they only surrendered 19. The nip-and-tuck second set, which was decided by the Oragons’ miscues, was largely the result of Petro Gazz’s complacency, pointed out head coach Jerry Yee.

“Medyo naging complacent kasi kami. When we looked up, dikit na ‘yung laban. Buti na lang nag-kick in ‘yung sense of urgency namin,” said Yee.

By the third set, the Angels had total control of the match, grabbing a 16-7 lead and never looking back.

“We’re adjusting pero the team has been performing admirably. So far, I’m happy with the way we’ve been performing. Kaunting push pa,” added Yee.

Ukranian Olena Lymareva-Flink, who arrived last Thursday to replace the ailing Kadi Kullerkann, managed 16 points in her debut to go with 14 digs. Middle blocker Cherry Nunag added nine markers. Petro Gazz also played without injured locals Wensh Tiu and Rachel Austero.

Iriga-Navy’s imports carried their offense. Lauren Whyte talled 17 points while Macy Ubben added 14.

The Angels (2-3) look to end the first round on a high against the league-leading PayMaya High Flyers (3-1). The Lady Oragons (1-3) try to end their losing skid against the Tacloban Fighting Warays (2-2) on Wednesday.
