Petro Gazz sweeps Tacloban for first QF win

Following a quick loss last Saturday, the Petro Gazz Angels regained composure and made short work of the Chooks-to-Go-backed Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, in the Premier Volleyball League quarterfinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Angels’ Ukranian import Olena Lymareva-Flink played marvelously, scoring 22 points off 15 attacks, six aces, and a block.

Head coach Jerry Yee praised his imports’ efforts.

“Binibiro nga namin siya na sobrang sanay na niya sa lamig,” shared Yee, as the arena was much colder than usual due to the torrential rains.

“Maganda ‘yung pinakita niya kasi we tried a different rotation today. She stepped up and delivered. Hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy lang ito,” the former UP Lady Maroons coach added.

Anastasiia Trach paced the Angels with 11 points, while middle blocker Alyssa Layug added nine markers in her first start of the season.

The Angels lorded it over the Fighting Warays through heavy serves, garnering 11 aces. Petro Gazz also revved up their offense, out-hitting Tacloban 43-30.

Thai import Hyapa Amporn was the only Fighting Waray in double-digits with 16 markers. Jovielyn Prado managed seven points.

The Angles (1-1) take on the Bali Pure-National University Water Defenders (1-0) on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Tacloban (0-2) face the Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons (0-1), also on Saturday.
