San Beda extends mastery over EAC to 19 games

Ever since 2009, the Generals have yet to taste victory over the Red Lions. In NCAA Season 94, the trend continues.

Behind an all-around effort by the defending NCAA Seniors Basketball Champions, San Beda locked down EAC to take a 61-46 win, Tuesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

San Beda remain unblemished in their first three games, while EAC remain winless in four. Moreover, this is San Beda’s 19th straight win over EAC.

“I’m happy the guys played. Even though we started a little bit slow,” shared San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez, who celebrated his 47th birthday yesterday.

Fernandez knew that the Generals are a dangerous third quarter team, especially after they scored 39 points in the third frame against the Lyceum Pirates last July 13.

“We know that EAC is a good third quarter team and we limited them to eight points. It’s our defense that really made a difference tonight,” disclosed Fernandez.

San Beda started the third frame strong, going on a 19-0 burst to pick up an imposing 21-point lead.

“The boys really stepped up today. Hopefully we can carry this win in our next game,” added the decorated head coach.

Robert Bolick led the Red Lions with an efficient statline of 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go along six assists and two steals. Donald Tankoua added nine points and 10 rebounds, while James Canlas chipped in eight markers.

Every Red Lion in the game finished with at least a point.

The only thing Fernandez lamented in the Red Lions’ outing was their free throw shooting, as they went just 11-for-23 from the stripe.

Rustan Bugarin led EAC with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hamadou Laminou was limited to just nine points and two rebounds.

San Beda look to continue their streak on Friday, August 3, when they take on the Mapua Cardinals. EAC, on the other hand, face the San Sebastian Golden Stags earlier that day at 12:00nn.
