After last season’s heartbreak, Tamaraws now charge as one

During the post-game press conference after the Far Eastern University’s 68-61 win over the De La Salle University Green Archers, second-year Tamaraws head coach Olsen Racela could not help but look back on their Game 3 semifinals loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles last season.

“The last time I was here, ‘di maganda yung resulta, yung Final Four loss namin eh,” the PBA legend recalled.

Coming into the season, Racela has been filled with hope. With only two players graduating and six student-athletes hungry to end their UAAP careers on a high note, the Tamaraws have high expectations for themselves this season.

“Maganda, iba yung pakiramdam.”

Against La Salle, almost every Tamaraw fielded by Racela produced. Alec Stockton provided the spark, scoring seven of his nine points in the first half.

“Everyone just stayed focused all throughout like from the bench and from the starting five. Everyone just contributed well,” said the Filipino-American sophomore.

Kenneth Tuffin, who chipped in 11 markers, knocked down big shots all throughout the game.

“I think it was a good contribution all around today. It showed on the stat sheet that we had some good assists there,” added Tuffin, as FEU’s ball movement kept La Salle confused, especially in the end game.

“And everyone took upon the challenge today and it was a very good result for us.”

Moreover, it was the defense that did the trick for the Tamaraws, with the backcourt of Kib Montalbo, Andrei Caracut, and Aljun Melecio combining to shoot just 11-for-34 from the field.

“We pride ourselves on team defense. Ang La Salle kasi maraming weapons eh, not just the guards, their bigs,” shared Racela.

Now united with a common goal, the Tamaraws are laser-focused on sending their seniors home with a championship on their resumé.
