2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Philippines gears up one more time before flying to Iran

The Philippine Men’s National Basketball Team went to practice on Monday morning at the Meralco Gym before leaving for the Middle East to face Iran in the FIBA World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers this coming Thursday.

The Filipino dribblers are set to fly to Tehran tonight at 11pm.

Unlike in their tune-up on Sunday versus the iECO Green Warriors, Monday’s session yielded perfect attendance as Christian Standhardinger returned to action. According to head coach Yeng Guiao, the Fil-German forward had a bum stomach.

Standhardinger joined Japeth Aguilar, Gabe Norwood, Asi Taulava, Beau Belga, Raymond Almazan, Ian Sangalang, Alex Cabagnot, Scottie Thompson, Allein Maliksi, Stanley Pringle, Matthew Wright, and Marcio Lassiter.

Greg Slaughter was in attendance, but he still remained on the sidelines due to his left ankle injury. Paul Lee and Poy Erram were on the sidelines as well.

The Nationals are preparing for their September 13 clash with the Iranians ā€“ the 2018 Asian Games silver medalists ā€“ at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran. Guiao’s 12-man unit for that particular assignment will be identified in Iran.
