Dondon Hontiveros’ son Ice Blanco commits to La Salle

The future continues to look bright for De La Salle University.

One of Cebu’s top young prospects in Ice Blanco has committed to joining the Green Archers, Friday.

A true freshman, the son of Dondon Hontiveros will immediately be eligible to join the team in the UAAP come Season 83.

“We’re happy that he committed to La Salle. We feel he still has that Animo in him since he attended La Salle Green Hills before,” said a team official, who requested anonymity, as Blanco was in LSGH before heading to University of Cebu.

With the Junior Webmasters, Blanco, a 6-foot-3 point guard, dazzled.

The lefty guard steered UC to the 2018 CESAFI Juniors Basketball championship.

Blanco then moved to FEU-Diliman in 2019, but immediately returned to UC to settle some unfinished business.

“His potential and the leadership he displayed while in UC was what attracted us to him,” the source added.

“He’s versatile enough to play multiple positions which is an advantage in our system. He’ll be one of the true freshmen we have coming in and he will add depth to the team.”

In Season 83, Blanco will learn from graduating guards Aljun Melecio and Kurt Lojera. Then a year later, he will form a formidable duo with transferee Evan Nelle.

Already possessing court generalship, the Green Archers are hoping that he becomes a dead-eye shotlike his dad one day.

“Hopefully, he becomes as good a shooter as his dad or even better.”

Other schools that made offers to Blanco were FEU, Ateneo, and UST.
