Lebron Lopez on remaining in Ateneo High: ‘I want to get my diploma’

Lebron Lopez will not head to the States and train with Kai Sotto and the rest of East West Private’s stable.

The 16-year-old Fil-Angolan is currently enrolled in Ateneo High School. And he looks to obtain a high school diploma before deciding on his next option.

“My whole family taught me the importance of education. I want to get my Ateneo diploma and I will work hard for it,” he said.

Last August 1, rumors swirled that the athletic 6-foot-4 winger was bound for the US after EWP posted a teaser. The investment firm did not reveal the player, though, only saying that he has the initials LL.

Though training abroad is an opportunity of a lifetime for some, getting an Ateneo education carries the same weight for Lopez.

And his uncle Felipe and aunt Leonila fully support Lebron’s decision.

“Suporta lang kami palagi at dasal na si Francis ay makatapos at maging successful. Masaya na kami,” said Leonila.

“As his uncle, we are here to guide him lang po. Napakabait po niya sa amin, lalo na po sa Auntie (Leonila) niya at sa kapatid niya. Kaya our prayer po ay patuloy syang gabayan and that he will finish school and be successful,” added Felipe.

“Project ko po ‘yan sa kanilang magkapatid.”

Lopez, who transferred from La Salle Green Hills, averaged 16.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game.

“I will continue to aspire to be the best basketball player that I can be. I’m sure Ateneo has a plan and will help me achieve that,” continued Lopez.

“Wala pong substitute ang magandang education because I believe that for me to be able to be the best, I need the most important aspect — intelligence.”

Also part of EWP are Sage Tolentino, Cholo Anonuevo, and Jayden Harper.
