Nonoy accepts pressure that comes with Fast and Furious tag on Nelle tandem

The original The Fast and The Furious tag was bestowed on Ginebra’s beloved duo of 2009 PBA MVP Jayjay Helterbrand and 2012 MVP Mark Caguioa.

But over at Taft Avenue, a new incarnation of the monicker is in its advent.

Evan Nelle, a heady point guard who transferred from San Beda, is set to team up with speedster Mark Nonoy, a transferee from University of Santo Tomas.

Five-foot-eleven guard Nelle has told Tiebreaker Times that having the 5-foot-8 Nonoy on his side is going to be fun.

But for Nonoy, they have to live up to that branding, since they’re following in the footsteps ofĀ two legends of the game.

“Sa akin naman, okay lang naman. I can accept the challenge and siguro normal naman sa tao ‘yun,” Nonoy shared on 2OT presented by Phenom Sportswear Inc.

“Kung ganon nga, sige okay lang. Panindigan, and try lang namin ‘yung best namin [to live up to it].”

Both Nonoy and Nelle are alpha players in their own right.

During his rookie year, Nonoy averaged 11.11 points, 3.83 rebounds, and 2.78 assists per game for UST. He also won the Rookie of the Year plum.

On the other hand, Nelle’s sophomore year saw him erupt for numbers of 10.2 points, 6.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. His performances propelled him to the All-NCAA team.

Both point guards are willing to take a backseat to one another in pursuit of the main goal ā€” bringing the championship to La Salle.

But for now, Nonoy looks to acclimatize himself with his new school first.

“Sana makapag-adjust kami sa school. ‘Yun talaga ‘yung foundation. Pagiging student before athlete. So sana maka-adjust kami and siguro kung anong ginawa ko sa Season 82, sana higitan ko pa sa Season 84. Gawin ko lang ‘yung makakaya ko para mabalik sa championship.”
