PBA to wait for Calvin Abueva’s final GAB requirements before next move

Great news came in the way of Calvin Abueva Friday morning as the Games and Amusement Board is set to give him his pro license back.

That, indeed, is a long time coming for the Phoenix star, who only hopes to get back into the PBA as he remains suspended since June last year.

The league is aware of the development but then again, it reminded that there remain requirements that he has to fulfill.

Well, the country’s regulatory body for pro sports agreed to reinstate his license provided that he meets a couple of conditions it has set.

Firstly, Abueva needs to attend a seminar on The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete.

And secondly, the San Sebastian product must undergo a mandatory drug test as part of the medical requirements.

“May mga requirements pa na tinatapos si Calvin,” said Commissioner Willie Marcial in a quick chat with Tiebreaker Times.

There’s no word yet, though, regarding the lifting of the ban in the event that the one-time PBA champion regains his license.

Abueva has been serving the longest suspension in league history, although there’s much hope now that he could finally return.

Last Tuesday, Abueva met with the Commissioner and GAB officials. And not long after, he was transported by his team to Clark, Pampanga.

Not only was he allowed to enter the bubble, but he was also given the green light to join his fellow Fuel Masters in practice.

Abueva and Phoenix Super LPG had their first practice Thursday as teams have finally been allowed to hold scrimmages.
