Jonathan Grey inches closer to Northport return

NorthPort is just waiting for Jonathan Grey’s clearance from the doctor before bringing him aboard its 2020 PBA Philippine Cup campaign.

The four-year pro is with the Batang Pier inside the bubble in Clark, but he has yet to see action as he continues to regain his form from a knee injury.

“Hinihintay lang namin ‘yung go-signal ng doctor na mabigyan siya ng clearance na pwede na siya maglaro,” lead assistant Rensy Bajar said.

Grey, 28, continues his recovery from a torn right patellar tendon. He reportedly sustained the injury from a freak accident last year.

That cut short what was turning out to be a fine season for him, as he was averaging 9.3 points across 17 games before the injury.

Bajar said that the St. Benilde product has been active in the bubble, though, as he works on his strength and conditioning.

“May mga strengthening na pinagagawa ‘yung mga PT namin, and sumasabay din siya sa practices namin,” he said.

The Batang Pier are looking for any help that they can get, as they have already dropped their first two games of the season.

NorthPort suffered an 89-96 defeat in the hands of Blackwater in its debut last Oct. 12. They then bowed to Phoenix, 105-110, on Thursday.

Only 12 of the 13 players in the lineup are playing so far for the young team, which does not have Robert Bolick for this season.
